Pour les Spectral... mieux vaut pour ton compte en banque que tu n'en écoutes jamais !

tu comprends donc qu'un jour je passe en actif avec deux 300 et le filtre alimenté par une supercap, ça va de soit

Jeanpi, pour l'IWC tu as tout à fait raison.
J'ai une Spitfire Chronograph que j'aime beaucoup puisque c'est un cadeau de fiançailles, et la finition IWC est bien au rendez-vous.
Mais, côté mouvement on est à des années-lumières de la Portugaise automatique que j'ai mise en photo.... Je l'ai passée plusieurs fois au poignet celle-ci, et j'espère bien qu'elle finira par y rester :razz:

Un coupé sportif c'est joli, mais je préfère les berlines... La quatroporte n'est peut être pas la plus jolie voiture du monde mais je la trouve classe, et j'aime le concept.

Une écoute des Ovators S600, par Don Atkinson, que j'avais rencontré à Heathrow show il y a quelques années, quelqu'un de très sympathique qui nous avait très gentillement offert un verre au bar

Les S 600 seront exactement au milieu d'une gamme de 5 enceintes, deux au-dessus donc plus chères et 2 au-dessous dont un modèle bibliothèque plus accessibles en terme de prix.
Le modèle S400 juste en dessous des 600 devrait apparaitre en fin d'année.

I went to HiFi Cinema near Reading this evening and was very impressed with the S600 speakers.

They were driven by 555/552/250.2 with the 555 then swapped for the HDX, then the HDX+DAC and finally the CDS2+DAC. Room was about 24'x16' with 8' ceiling and carpeted. sparsely furnished but not untypical of a good-sized living room.

Wide, open, clear and detailed sound across the full frequency spectrum on a broad selection of music from clasical, guitar through to country. Totally captivating and convincing delivery of each type of music. you forget the speakers and think you are in the recording venue. Probably far more tollerant of room variations than the SL2s. If you missed out on NBLs and are in the market for a £6k pair of beautifully finished and (to my taste) - attractive looking speakers, you should put these (the S600) on your short list and audition at home.

The S600 are the middle speakers in a range of 5 (S220/400/600/800/1000). Next to be released later this year, will probably be the next model down, probably to be called S400 and priced at about £2.5k.

The ones I heard were passive, 2-way. 2-way and 3-way active versions should also be available.

The 555 was a spectacular source. The HDX (by comparison) was ok but not engaing IMHO. Adding the DAC brought the HDX to life - bigtime. It drew you back to the music, in the way the 555 does. The cdx2+DAC didn't quite get the best out of the S600 IMHO so I would guess that a cds3 would be needed to get the full benefit.

As I say, a totally impressive speaker. Audition if you are in that league. If you live in the Mid-West with absolutely no chance whatsoever to dem before buying - take a chance, you won't be disappointed.

Well for those current Naim speaker users the new Ovators are going to be quite a culture shock, they are very different to any previous Naim speaker. Mark went through the technicals and for those unfamiliar with the technical’s they are under the news section on the Naim website front page. So why are they so different,? Well the new BMR tweeter/mid unit is seamless and completely integrated. The sound is wide, open and detailed but very composed and much smoother than current Naim speakers, all the rough edges and edginess that some people associate with Naim speakers has gone. You also sense a much clearer soundstage with real separation of both the instruments and channels. Someone commented when hearing the DHX/Dac/PSU just how easy it was to distinguish between drums and bass and even the different size cymbals that were being played. Now here is the clever trick the sound was much smoother but without loosing dynamics and attack, these remain just as good as previous Naim speakers maybe even better.

Ok so everything sound rosy so far and there are plenty of plusses so far. Where’s the catch then, why were people so reluctant to comment on the sound quality on other thread, what were behind Munch’s comments elsewhere? Well sadly for me the new speakers let themselves down in the bass department. Ok, that’s a bit harsh and we must remember these speakers are still very much work in progress and I am sure the finished article will be much better but I honestly thought the bass line wasn’t quite right. For me they seemed to be playing a different tune. Good old Ernie brought in a copy of Solomon Burkes CD and even being played on the more than capable 555, the bass just didn’t seem to integrate with the rest of the music. What bass there was will come as another shock to current Naim speaker users. The bass was much fuller and the scale much bigger as a result. SL2 users will be very impressed but would an SL2 user change his SL2’s for a pair of Ovator, maybe not. There are things I personally believe the SL2’s still do better and that the sparkle and transparency that I really liked when I did the Jaw thread. Sure the Ovators have the potential to be a much more complete pair of speakers but a little bit more work needs to be done first. The Ovators need to be able to leave the boxes more and I am sure that can be done quite easily.

So as mark stated this afternoon, the first pair of Ovators are being heard and many people will sit up and make note. These speakers will be more universally acceptable by users of non Naim electronics. They are easier to use, not so dependant on the rear wall and I must admit, they are a real hit in the looks department.

So to summarise, many, many pluses, the BMR driver is a real step forward. The speakers are very musical and well composed. My personal concerns would be the integration between bass units and the BMR units and of course room integration. As always anyone serious about these speakers must demo a pair at home.
